Fluid – (adj) not settled or stable; likely or able to change
It’s been a while since my last blog, and boy, did it hit a nerve for some folks. Which I love, that is why I write. I appreciate the feedback; it informs my effectiveness.
Which leads me to this thought: how flexible are we? In my previous post, I asked “what’s next?” and, with that, came the question, “Well, how flexible are you, Annette?”
That is a challenging question for many folks. We are all creatures of habit. We like to know what we are doing, when we are doing it, and with whom we are doing it!. Yet, this I KNOW FOR SURE, nothing is guaranteed, no matter how precise we are in our efforts and contributions. No matter how prepared we are, no matter how astute we are in unpredictable circumstances, life is fluid.
I have learned that we must be prepared when opportunity arises and contribute with kindness and mindfulness, but in the blink of an eye, life can shift. I’ve learned that I must be present each day that I arise. I must honor it with my words, actions, and intentions. Oftentimes, we are preparing for a future that may not come, while the present is chaotic.
I recently came across a quote that read,
“We stress too much for a life that can end at anytime — make sure to live.”
That struck me. That requires fluidity. That requires living with the likelihood that anyone or anything can change at any given time.
Each day is a gift…and I mean that. Each day we get to participate in, breathe in, and show up is a gift. We want to control our happiness, and that comes at a great cost.
Listen, I am not saying throw caution to the wind. Neither am I saying not be responsible. We must be prepared, we must be responsible, we must honor our commitments, yet we must stay fluid, so that when those times come that throw us a curveball, we survive it. In our preparedness, we must learn to allow room for fluidity to seep in.
Life is fluid for so many.
Let’s remember to show grace when someone else’s normal is not your normal.
