Switch it up…

Early this year, I decided to re-arrange my home office. I turned my desk around and placed it facing the wall behind me. Can I tell you that that simple action of turning a desk around shifted EVERYTHING for me! I am now facing beautiful, colorful, original artwork from my son and husband, respectively. I am facing my latest diplomas. I am facing my husband’s accomplishments. I am facing the word art of “The Writing Manifesto”, which serves as a daily reminder to keep writing. I am facing my bookcase filled with books I love, read, wrote, and have yet to read. I am facing framed pictures of my life with my children and spouse. I am facing sweet gifts sent to me by those who love me and know me best. I am facing a life full of experiences and memories that have served me well. To think they were behind me, physically and metaphorically. The symbolism of all this reminded me that I still have much more to do and give.

I write all this because that simple act created a visual that shifted my perspective. Switching it up in a room, a workout routine, a drive home, a playlist, a hairstyle, or a fashion statement can be the shift we need to refresh our minds and encourage ourselves and those around us.

I get to sit at my desk every day and look up at what’s before me, and it makes me smile.

If you find yourself struggling with life’s routine and feel unmotivated by your surroundings, I encourage you to shift your perspective. It can be as simple as re-arranging a room, reorganizing a closet, or changing the wall art from one room to another. Setting a table, lighting a candle—doing something out of the ordinary—I promise it will cause you to see things differently.

You may even notice something you never noticed before.

It allows for “newness” towards things that may have seemed dull and stale. You may notice something that was there all along, but you forgot about it because you placed it behind you.

It will help create a positive space in your mind and around you.

The best part…it doesn’t matter how big or small your space may be and more importantly there is no money spent!

Just shift the room around.

You will suddenly see things differently because…well, they are.

I challenge you to change something in your space, and I guarantee it will shift how you view it.

Your thoughts and even your mood will shift.

Give it a try….

Switch it up!
