Sorrow…can use some company

Sorrow – (n) Deep sadness for the loss of someone or something loved

I am not sure about you, but lately, we have been surrounded by immeasurable sorrow, almost to the point of hopelessness. It seems as if every day we wake up to the loss of someone we hold dear, to the illness that someone is battling, to the financial devastation so many are facing…it just seems endless.

Sorrow is a tricky emotion. I’ve learned it can suffocate you; it can debilitate you; it can paralyze you. It can make you sick physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

I have mourned with so many, and I have grieved for myself. But sorrow needs company. I know that may sound weird, but it does. We have to learn to sit, walk and simply show up for those walking in sorrow. This is how they can stand in it and garner the strength to walk through it and not give in to the debilitating reality that sorrow can suffocate, paralyze and sicken the body.

Don’t shy away from sorrow. It’s an emotion that is physical. You feel it when you see an image of a loved one that is long gone. When you face a decision that can be overwhelming. When you are simply lost in your circumstances.

Do you know someone that is going through a time of sorrow?

Show up for them. Sit with them. Walk with them. Talk with them.

They are not looking for you to have the answers.

They simply need the company that will help them process the questions.

Gently help them get to the other side of it.

For there is always another side to what is enveloping us at that moment.

It is hope…
